When I was in luxury watch retail, one of the watches that I kept selling was the IWC Flieger Chronograph. This watch came out in the early to mid-nineties. It looked like an instrument. It was simple, understated, and timeless. Recently, IWC paid homage to this watch by releasing the Pilot Watch Chronograph Ref. 377724.

This classic design makes a triumphant return with nearly an identical version: the dial of this Pilot’s Watch Chronograph features a quarter-second scale for measuring short times. The case is made in stainless steel, measures 43mm x 15.3mm. It has a soft-iron inner case for protection against magnetic fields. It has an AR-coated convex sapphire crystal, secured against displacement by a drop in air pressure. It is water-resistant to 60 meters.

The movement is the Swiss automatic IWC caliber 79320 with 24 jewels, 28,800 vph and a power reserve of 44 hours.

It features Côtes de Genève and Perlage finishing. Chronograph function with hours, minutes, and seconds. Day and date display.

It has a black dial with beige luminous hands and markers. it comes on a green textile strap with a steel buckle. Retail is $4,950. This timepiece is available exclusively for e-commerce until October 2018 via IWC’s website or their Concierge service.

In my opinion, to spend 5k on a watch like this that comes on a textile or nato type strap is a bit spendy even though it is a chronograph. I know that it is exclusive and has limited production and distribution, but still! The original version came equipped with a matte black alligator strap. IWC should have fitted it on the alligator strap and made the green textile the secondary strap in the box, but that’s just me.
