Out of the blue, Tudor has released yet another NEW model! This time an entirely NEW collection of watches known as “Royal”. This watch has the styling of luxury sevenites sports watches but executed for today’s generation of watch enthusiasts and collectors. It’s available in four different sizes; 28mm, 34mm, 38mm and 41mm. The enitre Tudor Royal collection are equipped with ETA automatic movements. Some are pissed that Tudor decided to go with ETA movements rather than in house calibre’s but when you look at how well priced these watches are it’s totally understandable! It is nice to have a longer 72 hour power reserve like in the Tudor models with in house movements but 38 hours is just fine. For some this won’t be their only watch. The nice thing about a watch like this is that it has a screw down crown and 100 meters water resistance. If you look at any of the more upscale luxury brand who make similar styling watches, they are only water resitant up to 50 meters.
Originally this was exclusively available in four Asian markets including; Hong Kong, China, Taiwan and the Philippines. Now it’s officially available in the US.
Since I like it best out of all the models. I want to focus on the 41mm size in stainles steel with blue sunray roman dial which features a DAY complication at the twelve o’clock position & DATE complication at the three o’clock position ( like the much more expensive Rolex Day/Date “President”), an integrated jubilee style bracelet, a screw down crown and a notched bezel. The smaller sizes of the NEW Tudor Royal only have DATE complication not DAY.
The 41mm stainless steel version is available with blue, black and silver sunray dials with applied roman numerals for $2,325 and it’s also availble in the same dial colors with applied Roman numerals and diamonds for $2,950. A steel and 18kyg version is available with champagne, black and silver sunray dials with applied Roman numerals for $3,350. Unfortunately, the blue diial is not available on the steel and gold version. However, its also available in the same dial colors as mentioned above with applied Roman numerals and diamonds for $3,950. The price point is just amazing! No other brand can dominate and play in the 3-5k price point quite like Tudor can!
In my opinion, the 41mmm Tudor “Royal” with Blue Roman dial pictured below is the clear winner! It’s iconic, classy, sporty, versatile and at $2,325 retail, it’s hard to beat! Some are calling it an “AP Royal Oak killer” because of the inexpensive price point, size, and how similar looking it is to the mighty Audemars Piguet, Royal Oak, self-winding, 41mm. As much as Tudor gets its inspiration and styling from vintage Rolex and Tudor watch models from their iconic past (like the Rolex Oyster Quartz), the NEW Tudor Royal is very much its own thing. I wouldn’t be surprised if this particular model goes over retail! I’ve sold Rolex and Tudor for close to thirty years and let me tell you, Tudor watches today are built better and priced less than Rolex watches made 20 years ago.
