Patek Philippe has been producing some of the finest timepieces for over 180 years. The Calatrava has always been their buttoned up sophisitcated dress watch that exudes class. At this Watches & Wonders a few weeks ago, a NEW Calatrava was born that is every bit sporty and causal as it is refined.

At the heart of the NEW Calatrava Ref. 6007G-001 is the self-winding mechanical movement of caliber 26‑330 S C. This movement is designed to deliver exceptional precision and reliability. It has a 45 hour power reserve and has the Patek Philippe Seal which applies to the finished watch in its totality – the movement, the case, and other exterior components (dials, hands, pushers, bracelets, clasps, etc.). It embraces the entire know-how and all other assets required to design, manufacture, and service exceptional timepieces. The directives also relate to the technology and aesthetics of the timepieces and the flawless integrity of all functions.

For movements, the Patek Philippe Seal specifies an extreme rate accuracy with a tolerance of no more than -3/+2 seconds per day. It imposes very strict requirements on the manual finissage of movement parts in keeping with the grand Genevan traditions. And it affirms the quality of the materials used, the perfection of the precious stones as well as the work of the gemsetters.

Moreover, it is the only quality seal for watches that also covers service for the entire lifetime of the watch and guarantees maintenance, repairs, and restoration of all watches crafted by the manufacture since 1839.

The ebony black dial is embossed with a “carbon” motif at the center. The gold applied numerals are coated with white luminescent material, making them easy to read, especially in low-light conditions. The date is displayed in an aperture, and the sweep seconds hand adds a touch of elegance yet fun to the overall design. It’s available in three different dials variations of yellow, red and sky blue highlighted on the counters and seconds hands as well as on the stitching and lining of the black calfskin straps with embossed “carbon” pattern which adds a nice pop of color and makes it less serious than most other Patek Philippe watches.

The case of the Calatrava Ref. 6007G-001 is made of white gold and features a sapphire crystal case back. It is water-resistant up to 30 meters and has a diameter of 40mm and a slim height of 9.17mm, totally makes it a perfect fit for most wrist sizes. The strap is made of black calfskin and is embossed with a “carbon” motif, adding a sporty technical feel to the overall aesthetic appeal of the watch. The strap is secured with a prong buckle, ensuring a secure and comfortable fit. I wish it was water resistant to at least 100 meters which I know would add more thickness but necessary on a watch like this.  Even though it’s a bit pricey at almost 40k retail for a three handed watch with a date, in my opinion it’s a Calatrava on a strap that you can wear in any situation

Due to the unpredictable and volatile market on certain Rolex, Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet watches, prices are subject to change.
