When I think of art deco in watches nothing can compete with the rich history of the mighty Jaeger-Le Coultre Reverso. This year at Watches & Wonders 2023, Jaeger-LeCoultre released the Reverso Tribute Chronograph. It’s a masterpiece of fine watchmaking that combines elegant design with exceptional mechanical complexity. Equipped with the new Manufacture Calibre 860, this watch has succeeded in meeting a dual challenge: displaying the time on both sides, and completely reinventing the indications display of the chronograph in a rectangular case.

The front of the watch features a grey-blue sunray dial on the stainless steel version(retail-$21,400) or a black sunray dial on the pink gold version($37,400) both with applied hour-markers and a minute track floating above the movement, blue chronograph hands, and bevelled bridges. The back of the watch reveals an open-worked dial of fascinating complexity that showcases the retrograde chronograph mechanism.

The Reverso Tribute Chronograph is a true testimony to the expertise of La Grande Maison’s watchmakers. The retrograde 30-minute counter is composed of 14 components and allows the minute hand to return to its initial position in a fraction of a second. The dial is open-worked, and the bridges are meticulously designed to highlight the key components of the movement, such as the fascinating column wheel that regulates the chronograph mechanism.

The design of the Reverso Tribute Chronograph marries watchmaking tradition to modern aesthetics. The recto echoes the original Reverso, while the open-work verso is resolutely modern. The sporty complication is connected to the roots of fine watchmaking, and the black finished dials of the verso ensure perfect legibility.

The Reverso Tribute Chronograph is a fully integrated hand-wound chronograph movement that incorporates the latest Manufacture innovations. It comes with a pair of interchangeable straps: one in leather and blue canvas, the other all-leather in a Casa Fagliano design. The matching strap is designed to evoke the exclusive world of polo and creates a unified aesthetic and a strong sense of style that underlines the timeless modernity of the Reverso design.

The Reverso Tribute Chronograph reinvents the ground-breaking Reverso Chronographe of 1996, one of six special Reverso developed in the space of a single decade. Starting in 1991, these watches were landmarks in the revival of mechanical watchmaking after the quartz crisis.

This chronograph is a unique and versatile timepiece that showcases the mastery of fine watchmaking. With its exceptional finishes, intricate mechanism, and understated complexity, this watch is a true work of art that will be cherished for generations to come!

Due to the unpredictable and volatile market on certain Rolex, Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet watches, prices are subject to change.
