Porsche Design Celebrates 50 Years with the Chronograph 1 – 1975 Limited Edition
Porsche Design honors its legacy of precision engineering with the Chronograph 1 – 1975 Limited Edition, a watch that blends motorsport-inspired aesthetics with modern horology. Limited to 350 pieces worldwide, this release marks a new retail partnership between Porsche Design and the Watches of Switzerland Group, bringing enthusiasts closer to the brand’s racing heritage.
A Tribute to a Historic Design
The Chronograph 1 – 1975 Limited Edition pays homage to the original Chronograph I introduced in 1975, which itself followed the groundbreaking all-black model launched in 1972 by Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche. This new edition captures the spirit of classic Porsche dashboards, featuring a matte-black dial, bold white numerals and indices, and a striking red chronograph seconds hand—a clear nod to Porsche’s iconic 911 instrumentation.
Titanium Case with Historic Details
For the first time, Porsche Design uses uncoated glass bead-blasted titanium in a chronograph not exclusively tied to limited-edition Porsche sports cars. The 40.8mm case measures 14.1mm thick and includes an AR-coated sapphire crystal for enhanced legibility. The laser-engraved caseback showcases the historic Porsche Design emblem, further linking this timepiece to the brand’s rich heritage. With a water resistance of 100 meters, it’s built for real-world versatility.
COSC-Certified Flyback Chronograph
At the heart of the watch is the Swiss automatic caliber WERK 01.240, developed by Porsche Design. This COSC-certified chronometer runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour, features 25 jewels, and offers a 48-hour power reserve. Functions include:
-
Hours, minutes, and small seconds (subdial at 9 o’clock)
-
Flyback chronograph with a 30-minute counter at 12 o’clock and a 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock
-
Day and date display at 3 o’clock, available in both German and English
SuperLuminova-treated hands and indices ensure excellent readability in low light conditions.
Bracelet and Price
The watch comes fitted with a glass bead-blasted titanium bracelet, complete with a folding clasp and fine adjustment system for optimal comfort.
The Porsche Design Chronograph 1 – 1975 Limited Edition retails for $9,650 USD
