Baume & Mercier released the Clifton 5 days automatic

Out of all the brands in the Richemont Group portfolio, Baume & Mercier has always been their intro to the luxury brand. When I was in luxury watch retail, we were one of the biggest Baume & Mercier retailers in the country. So needless to say I am very familiar with their quality and design. Recently Baume & Mercier released one of the best values in the Swiss Watch industry known as the Clifton 5 Day Baumatic.

Those who are familiar with Baume & Mercier and luxury watch brands, in general, may see a slight resemblance to sister brand, Jaeger-LeCoultre with their Geophysique model in terms of the dial execution. The NEW Baume & Mercier Clifton 5 Days Baumatic is 40mm in case diameter. It’s made out of stainless steel. The movement is the Self-winding, Baumatic BM12-1975A COSC. It comes in two versions of a COSC certified movement for $2,790 and a non-COSC movement for $2,590. The dial is a porcelain white with indices for hour markers and special rhodium-plated hands for contrast. The functions are hours, minutes, and date. This watch is fitted with a black alligator strap with contrasting stitching. The non-COSC movement versions don’t have the crosshair detail in the middle of the dial which opens it up and makes it look more serious. So what makes this watch so special? It’s a watch from a major luxury watch brand with an in-house 5-day movement and certified a chronometer for accuracy. This is just remarkable when if you look back it was just 5-10 years ago that you needed to spend well over 5k to get a watch with an in-house movement from a major luxury watch brand. It’s because of a watch like this that we will see more and more luxury watchmakers develop, innovate, and manufacturer watches of this caliber in the future. This watch is for someone who wants to be taken seriously for wearing something well made, well designed that has brand recognition while not breaking the bank.
