Arnold & Son Globetrotter Steel 42 – Strand Blue & Greenwich Green Editions
Arnold & Son has updated its Globetrotter collection with two new models: the Strand Blue and Greenwich Greeneditions. Each version is limited to 88 pieces, adding to their exclusivity. These watches keep the spirit of the original but bring a sleeker, travel-friendly design for today’s collectors.
Compact and Travel-Ready
The new 42 mm steel case feels more balanced thanks to its slimmer 15 mm thickness. This size suits modern tastes and makes the watch easier to wear daily. Despite the changes, Arnold & Son kept the striking three-dimensional dial, which remains the star of the show.
The 24-hour bezel ring helps travelers read world time quickly. A dome shows the northern hemisphere as seen from the North Pole, with sunray-brushed metallic continents rising above polished oceans in Strand Blue or Greenwich Green. These contrasts give the dial strong depth and character.
A Polarizing Bridge
I admire the functionality, refined design, and classic aesthetic, however, in my opinion, the arched steel bridge ruins the otherwise elegant look. Arnold & Son treats this hand-finished bridge as a signature feature, but its heavy presence draws too much attention. It distracts from the beautifully detailed globe, which should remain the main visual focus.
Movement and Craftsmanship
Inside, the in-house caliber A&S6122 powers the Globetrotter. It runs at 28,800 vph, uses 29 jewels, and offers a solid 55-hour power reserve. The finishing also stands out:
-
A circular-grained, palladium-treated main plate
-
Rayons de la Gloire-decorated bridges
-
Blued, polished screws
-
A skeletonized tungsten rotor with palladium treatment
The movement drives hours, minutes, and world time for 12 cities.
Straps
Arnold & Son pairs the watch with an ink blue or Cornwall green alligator leather strap and a steel pin buckle. The colors match the respective dial versions and complete the travel-inspired theme.
Price and Availability
Both editions sell for 18,300 Swiss Francs. Their limited run of 88 pieces makes them highly collectible, especially for enthusiasts who appreciate bold design—even if they share my dislike for the bridge
Due to the unpredictable and volatile market on certain Rolex, Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet watches, prices are subject to change.
